The urinary sodium: potassium ratio and response to diuretics in resistant oedema.
Nineteen patients with severe oedema due to either cirrhosis of the liver or to congestive cardiac failure, who had failed to respond to previous diuretic therapy, were treated with either increasing doses of frusemide (Group A), or with frusemide in a fixed dose of 80 mg daily and increasing doses of spironolactone (Group B). In Group A there was an inverse correlation between the baseline 24-...
متن کاملEstimating 24-h urinary sodium/potassium ratio from casual (‘spot’) urinary sodium/potassium ratio: the INTERSALT Study
Background Association between casual and 24-h urinary sodium-to-potassium (Na/K) ratio is well recognized, although it has not been validated in diverse demographic groups. Our aim was to assess utility across and within populations of casual urine to estimate 24-h urinary Na/K ratio using data from the INTERSALT Study. Methods The INTERSALT Study collected cross-sectional standardized data ...
متن کاملNormal calcium, sodium and potassium to creatinine ratio in Babol healthy adolescents
Background: Due to difficulty of obtaining a 24h urine (especially in children), a random urine calcium sample is recommended to detect of hypercalciuria. However, recent studies have shown that the urinary calcium/creatinine ratio varies with age and geographic areas. So, the aim of this study was determining the normal value of urinary calcium to creatinine ratio in healthy adolescent’s...
متن کاملIdiopathic oedema and diuretics.
Diuretic abuse has been invoked as the cause of idiopathic oedema. In this study, eight patients with idiopathic oedema were studied. Symptoms and weight variation continued despite the proven absence of diuretics in seven of them as determined by urinary chromatograms. Idiopathic oedema cannot therefore be attributed to diuretic use alone.
